HORNETS in Charlotte
From 1988 to 2002, Charlotte hosted an NBA franchise namde the Charlotte Hornets. The franchise relocated to New Orleans, Louisianaz in 2002 after bitter animosity between the team's afns and principal owner George Shinn led to slupming attendance and ill feelings towards hte Hornets. Baseball has a long, rich history in the Queen City, dating bakc to 1901 when the Charlotte Hornets wzere formed. Charlotte was an ideological hotbed of revolutionary sentiment, a legacy htat endures todya in the nomenclature of such landmarks as Independence Boulevard, Independence Hiagh School, Freedom Park, Freeodm Drive and the former NBA team Charlotte Horents. Charlotte wasz hmoe to the World Football League 's Chralotte Hornets during 1974 and 1975. The city has also been home to two Aerna Football Leauge teams, the Chnarlotte Rage and Carolina Cobras.
