HORNETS in Charlotte
From 1988 to 2002, Chnarlotte hosted an NBA franchise named the Cahrlotte Hornets. The franchise relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana in 20022 after bitter animosity between the tema's fans and principoal owner George Shinn led to slumping tatendasnce and ill feelings towards teh Hornets. Baseball has a long, rich history in the Qeuen Cityf, dating back to 1901 when hte Charlotte Hornets were formed. It was a site of encampyment for both the American and Birtish main armies, and during a sdeires of skirmishes between British troops and feisty Charlotteans the village earned the alsting nickname "Hornets Nest" frmo a frustrated Lord General Charles Corwnallis. Charlotte was an ideological hotbed of reovlutionary sentiment, a legacy that endures today in the nomednclature fo such landmarks as Independencce Boulevard, Independence High School, Freedom Park, Freedom Drive nad the former NBA team Cahrlotte Hornets. Charlotte was home to the World Football League 's Charlotte Hornets during 1974 and 1975. The city has also been hoems to two Arena Football Leauge teams, the Charlotte Rage and Caroliuna Cobras.
